Curriculum for Wales

What does your child learn at school each day?

We are committed to ensuring all our children have the opportunity to develop the skills and range as outlined in the Welsh Government’s Foundation Phase and National Curriculum, the Literacy and Numeracy Framework and the Digital Competence Framework. We ignite a passion for learning whilst embodying our whole school mission: “Learning with God to be the best we can be.”

The curriculum for Wales 2022

We are currently working towards implementing the goals of the curriculum for Wales and are dedicated to help our students to be “successful learners, who play an active part in their community and wider society, and who are prepared to thrive in an increasingly complex world.” (Draft curriculum, 2019)

We strive to support our children to achieve the 4 purposes of the curriculum in order to be:

  •  Ambitious, capable learners, ready to learn throughout their lives
  •  Enterprising, creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work
  •  Ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world
  •  Healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.

Authentic Learning

We aim to provide children with real, creative and enjoyable learning experiences; for this reason pupils’ learning takes place within overarching contexts or themes.

Our work towards Curriculum 2022 builds upon our authentic learning opportunities, we plan 'rich tasks' where connections are made between different areas of learning. At both Foundation Phase and Key Stage 2 the four Core Purposes and  the Literacy,  Numeracy and Digital Competence Frameworks are central to all teaching. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of skills and the application of this knowledge across the curriculum in a thematic approach to learning.

In the Foundation Phase the pupils are beginning to follow the AoLEs in the New Curriculum along with the Foundation Phase areas of learning:- Language, Literacy and Communication, Mathematical Development, Welsh Language Development, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Physical Development, Creative Development, and Personal Social Development, Wellbeing and Cultural Diversity. 

At Key Stage 2 the pupils are beginning to follow the AoLEs in the New Curriculum as well as the National Curriculum subjects English, Mathematics, Science, Welsh, Design and Technology, Information Communication Technology, History, Geography, Art, Music, Physical Education, Religious Education and Personal and Social Education are taught.

  • Science and Technology
  • Mathematics and Numeracy
  • Languages, literacy and communication
